Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Expert Review – Check Advantage and Disadvantage
After the accomplishment of its mightier hatchback, the Swift, Maruti Suzuki has launched its compact sedan version, Swift DZire. With this, Maruti Suzuki is all set to join the league of its competitors viz. Hyundai Excent, Honda Amaze, Mahindra Verito, Ford Figo Aspire etc. Identical in almost all aspects with reference to Swift(except the rear, obviously), priced at 5.27 Lakh INR(Ex-Showroom, Delhi), what else does the so-called sedan has to offer, let’s find it out.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Exterior
Maruti Suzuki has designed Swift Dzire compact sedan keeping in mind the government’s relaxed excise duty of 10%(instead of 22%) for a sub 4-metre car with a 1.2L or less petrol or 1.5L or less diesel engine. So, now the car has got a length of 3995m(3995x 1695×1555 mm).
It won’t be a surprise if somebody misunderstands the Swift DZire for its hatchback version(Swift) while glancing from the front. Almost identical in every aspect, the Sedan does look mighty. In its cosmetic makeover, the sedan gets a new honeycomb radiator grille with a thick line of chrome included, new air dam and a new set of fog lamps bezel ornamented with chrome. The same honeycomb design from the grill reflects in the encapsulation for the fog lamps too, which adds to the micro detailing of the car. The headlamps remain the same of an older version, but now they have been smoked black, which kind of looks ‘smoking-hot’. LEDs would have added to the trendiness of the car.
It is from the sideways when you notice the small boot of the sedan. It seems like it stands somewhere between hatchback and sedan. The broad wheel arches get connected with a sloping sharp line toward the rear. The roof gets sloping towards the rear. The look of the car enhances with body colored door handles and ORVMs (electronically operated). The car retains its blackened A and B pillars.
From the rear, the car does look catchy. It gets all new taillamps which are smaller compared to the outgoing model but look sportier. A bold chrome strip highlights the rear. The bumper gets some new curves to make it look funky but it still continues to be a big one compromising the boot space and rear windscreen. The bumper gets a foglight placed at the center which looks bold. The boot has been compromised majorly with a full capacity of 318 litres(as compared to the 464 litres of the first generation Dzire).
Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Interior
Well, thanks to its extended wheelbase, the cabin space has improved marginally compared to the Swift(still, it is crampy, but better). The considerable usage of Black and Beige (more Beige and less Black actually) color combination throughout the car gives it a rich and spacious feel. Except for some part of the dashboard, the entire car is submerged in Beige shade right from the lower part of the dashboard, textured upholstery up to the insides of all doors which make it more premium. The car looks classy with the only silver accents for the central AC vents and three spoke steering wheel mounted controls(which now also include controls for Bluetooth, telephony).
The top end variant gets a 2 DIN 6 speakers sound system(with CD, USB, AUX and also Bluetooth connectivity). The car also gets automatic climate control feature in the top end variant, controls for which are mounted beneath the sound system. The instrument cluster gets two large (again silver accented) dials viz. Speedometer and Tachometer, two small dials viz. temperature and fuel indicator and a vertically fitted rectangular LCD screen exactly between the larger two. The LCD panel gives a useful chunk of numbers like the average fuel efficiency, instantaneous fuel efficiency, distance to empty.
There are small pockets throughout the car for storage like the hole in front of the gear lever, door pockets on all doors(along with bottle holder in the rear doors), comparatively wide glovebox and an elevated area above it. The cup holders at the extreme end were smartly placed beneath the AC vent so that your drink remains if not chill, but cool. Well, don’t be surprised if someone bangs his or her head(especially a tall person) during Ingress/Egress. Thanks to the extended wheelbase, the legroom has increased marginally. The carving of the front seats from the back has also released (in a small proportion) some more space. This made Maruti release some additional knee room.
Thanks to the rear sloping roof, the headroom is also strictly limited. To add further, the rear seat is elevated than the front one. So, make sure the driver of your Swift will not miss a speed breaker else you are bound to hit the roof. The wide arm rest is very comfortable to rest your forearm. The addition of the third passenger in the rear seat will definitely make things more congested due to space crunch. With the inclined rear seat, it surely will offer good lumbar support along with comfortable thigh support.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Specification
Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire comes with a 4 cylinder, 1197 cc, K-series petrol engine and a 4 cylinder, 1248 cc, DDiS diesel engine. The former produces 86 BHP of power at 6000 RPM, 114 nm of torque at 4000 RPM and latter produces 74 BHP at 4000 RPM, 190 nm of torque at 2000 RPM. The BSIV emission norm compliant engines give a mileage of 20.4 kmpl and 26.59 kmpl respectively(with a fuel tank capacity of 42 litres). The petrol engine features Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology which orchestrates valve opening & closing in a way yielding better power and efficiency, quicker response and smoother acceleration, thus making the drive a sheer pleasure.
The diesel engine, on the other hand, induces a common-rail injection system and an inter-cooled turbocharger for superior performance and efficiency. Both technologies help curb thermal and frictional losses and are available in MT and AMT variant. The gross weight of the car is 1425 kg for petrol(with the kerb weight of 950 kg) and 1505 kg for the diesel(with the kerb weight of 1060 kg).
In terms of safety, the car gets ABS + Front Airbags(Optional), EBD, rear parking sensor in the top end variant. Maruti has used standard MacPherson strut coil spring suspension at front and Torsion Beam coil spring suspension at the rear. The top end variant gets 15 inches dynamic alloy wheels while the rest get 14 inches steel rims. A ground clearance of 170 mm is pretty decent for the road conditions.
1. The car has got impressive aesthetics.
2. Both the engines(petrol and diesel) are well refined and efficient for other compact sedans in its segment.
3. With its extended wheelbase, the car now offers a better grip on the road and marginally more legroom.
1. If you are a frequent traveler with your car, the usage of boot space for storage is definitely going to cause you inconvenience.
2. The overall elevated design of the rear bumper obstructs visibility in the interior rear view mirror.
3. The overall design of the car is a bit repulsive.
