Maruti Suzuki WagonR Expert Review – Check Advantage and Disadvantage
The all new ‘Tall-Boy’ Wagon R from Maruti Suzuki is here. Well, at least that’s what they have decided to call the car considering the way it is designed. Surely, very few would complain about headroom when somebody glances the Wagon R for the first time. The hatchback definitely standout with its ‘tall-boy’ design. The overall design of the car almost resembles a box type structure with its almost straight curves throughout the body. Basically competing with the Hyundai Santro, Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat. Maruti Suzuki WagnoR is all set to give a tough fight with this one, especially with the AMT variant. Prices starting from 4.11 Lakh INR(Ex-Showroom, Delhi), she definitely makes you stop for a moment and glimpse.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR Exterior
From the front, the Car actually looks big with its large Windscreen and headlights which are swept back to the side. The blue-tinged parking lights are the reason Maruti Suzuki calls it ‘The Blue Eyed Boy’ which definitely adds to the styling quotient. The grill and Maruti Suzuki symbol gets Chrome. The number plate is situated exactly at the center thus giving more exposure to the large rectangular Air dam. The fog lamps get a Matte black encapsulation which highlights them pretty well.
From the side, the car is deprived of any shoulder lines. It has a slanting roof towards the front which makes it look sporty. The wheel arches for the 14 Inches tires blend in quite smoothly and continue all way till rear. The car features body colored ORVMs(electronically operated), door handles and roof lines in the top end variant.
The taillights are also relatively larger (just like the headlights) than the usual. The rear also gets a chrome Maruti Suzuki symbol and a bigger chrome grill strip than the front with the name ‘Wagon R’ embossed in a bigger size on it. The rear skirts get an extension on the sides to cover the wheels.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR Interior
With such a wide opening for all 4 large doors, adds more to the blissfulness. The Maruti Suzuki WagnoR is themed with Black and Beige interiors with the dashboard and door armrest getting Aluminium touch which definitely adds to the style. The central console is very organized and decent for operation. It comprises of a sound system(capable of playing through CD, USB & AUX input) at the center below which are the controls for the functioning of AC. Overall, the entire assembly is ergonomically placed for use. The 3-spoke steering wheel also gets the Aluminium Black combination which suits it perfectly. It can be adjusted in 3 positions according to the driver’s comfort with a minimum turning radius of 4.3 m. Steering mounted Controls were definitely missed.
The Orange accent Instrument cluster along with three dials viz. Tachometer, Speedometer and third dial for display indicators like handbrake, engine temperature, seat belt etc. does look trendy. The Speedometer gets a small LCD strip at the bottom center which displays fuel level, trip meter and the running of the car in km. The fuel indicator symbol directs an arrow towards the left to avoid the confusion of the position of fuelling inlet of the car from outside. This was a smart move from the maker.
All the four doors are equipped with a speaker, a brief handle bar to rest your hand on and a slim pocket for storing small goodies. The dashboard gets 2 can holders, one each at both the extreme ends. A couple of gloveboxes on the dashboard adds for storage space. One of the innovative spaces for storage is beneath the front co-passenger seat when it gets folded. The storage(sort of basket) is detachable and can be carried outside the car too. The large windows(with the rear windows opening 100%) and beige upholstery do add to the roominess inside the car. The headroom is obviously sufficient(thanks to the ‘Tall-Boy’) and the legroom is sufficient at the expense of boot space which is merely 180 litres. The rear seat gets folded in 60:40 ratio to use the boot space wisely.
