Triumph has opened retail bookings for the all-new 2017 Street Triple 765, which is believed to rollout for delivery somewhere between June-July this year. The Street Triple which will be available in three trims, S, R and the RS however, only the S variant will be launched initially followed by the next two in the upcoming months. The 2017 Triumph Street Triple S is set to compete with the fan following of the upcoming Ducati Monster 797. With over 50K units sold for its outgoing variant launched in 2007, the Street Triple does the talk for itself through its performance which is distinctly evident through its sales, globally. Known for its caliber through its character and styling, it will be exciting to watch this beast pump the adrenaline, obviously more than the previous version, with a sticker price of approximately 11 lakh rupees

Triumph Street Triple Looks

Well, right from its first version way back in 2007, the Street Triple always has been more of performance than the beauty of it with its minimalistic design and almost butterfly shaped LED headlamp has never been stunning to look at. But this is something which has changed in 2017. The bike now gets a rather mature appeal. The smaller windscreen mounted above the headlights might create a less resistance at high speeds which is undesirable. The tank is widely spread at the front and tapering towards the seat making it easy to grip with the thighs. The compactly integrated engine, brawny swing-arm, split seat and a very broad and short exhaust pipe adds that extra muscle to the bike. The bar-end mirrors, as opposed to the traditional handlebar mounted ones, might be inconvenient at times. The relatively narrow rear design of the 2017 Street Triple seems to be carried over from the Triumph Daytona which rather looks vacant but, but those widely placed Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires fill up space. Overall, there is hardly any room for error; such is the total built of the bike.

Talking of the instrument cluster, Triumph has definitely tried to cover all the required or beneficent parameters with its brand new 5-inch TFT screen (which is adjustable manually for the optimum viewing angle and also is readable in all weather and light conditions with the help of three styles viz. High, Low or Auto contrast, which uses an integrated ambient light sensor to select the most optimized setting automatically) which is also configurable to show different layouts. Some of the numbers the display boasts are usual speedometer and tachometer (the bar graph tachometer changes colour over the final 1,000 rpm of the rev range, first turning to orange, then to red as it reaches the 12,750 rpm limiter, before finally flashing on and off as it crosses the cutoff), gear position indicator, time, fuel gauge, and ambient temperature, the five-way joystick can assist to navigate through the dials to get fuel economy figures, trip meter, distance to empty, and lap timer also. Also, the LED DRLs which are positioned inside the headlamps (unusual right?). There are ride-by-wire and five riding modes – Road, Rain, Track, and Sport along with a Rider mode which is fully customizable according to the comfort of the rider (Almost like any SUV). And yes, how can we forget the heated grips (which comes as an option), which is a boon while riding in the cold. The auto-cancelling LED indicators also simplifies the city commute more pleasurable. As per reports, the all premium bike employs more than 80 new components including a new crankshaft, rods and pistons, a revised balancer shaft and a new aluminium cylinder block with Nikasil plated bores.

The biggest update in the 2017 model is in the heart of the Street Triple, the engine. The Street Triple RS now gets a 3-cylinder, 765 cc engine which produces peak power of 121 bhp at 11,700 rpm, massive 16% more horses than the 675 along with maximum torque of 77 Nm at 10,800 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed transmission with quick-shifter which allows for clutchless upshifts as well. Unlike other motorcycles with different riding modes, the Street Triple RS offers all the 121 bhp in all the modes available making it one of the most practical sports bikes you want to ride on. The carried-over 675 frame design, aided by an impressive 166 kg dry weight makes it 2kg lighter than the old 675

As far as the suspension is concerned, at the front, there are the 41mm Showa big piston forks with a travel of 115mm and is fully adjustable for preload rebound and compression damping. At the rear, there is an Ohlins piggyback reservoir monoshock, again fully adjustable. Braking duties are done by twin 310mm floating discs up front and a single 220mm fixed disc at the rear. Also, it gets ABS and traction control, which of course is exchangeable.
